BEETROOT BITES BACK
"Beetroot Bites Back" came to life out of curiosity for the wildly populair "Autonomous sensory meridian response" (ASMR) videos. People from all over the world use these videos to fall asleep with or as a tool to brighten their mood. To put it shortly, “ASMR” is popular because of the tingling sensation it gives you, mostly felt on the back of ones head and neck. For some, this feeling even moves down the spine to the whole rest of the body. Research has proven that “ASMR” can actually help alleviate symptoms of depression and anxiety and can be seen as a form of meditation.
Still, when I tried it, I mostly felt grossly voyeuristic while watching someone on my screen whisper, chew and eat, softly rub their fingers together and play with hairbrushes, scissors and sponges in front of a microphone. It reminded me of the sound effects used in horror movies, only with “ASMR” these sound effects are a story on itself. It gave me the shivers.
